Cultural Highlights 2015
Salzburg stages over 4000 cultural events every year and is one of the world’s most famous cities of culture. As well as the annual Mozart Week in January, and the Easter, Whitsuntide and summer festivals, there are another 2 additional features worth mentioning.
The Sound of Music celebrates its 50th anniversary
Exactly 50 years ago Salzburg became known the world over thanks to ‘The Sound of Music’. The singing Trapp family and the story of their destiny still thrill people all over the world. According to Tourismus Salzburg GmbH, every year around 300,000 people come to Salzburg to see where the film was made.
In 2015 a number of events and items of cultural interest have been planned in Salzburg to mark this occasion. The musical ‘The Sound of Music’ at Salzburger Landestheater has now been added to the event schedule for the fourth time. Furthermore, there will be a special exhibition at the Marionettentheater puppet theatre and a gala at the ‘Felsenreitschule’. Tours by bicycle, coach or on foot are available all year round.
Hellbrunn features a special exhibition to mark its first 400 years
Hellbrunn is celebrating a truly major anniversary. The ensemble – the palace, the trick fountains and the expansive park – is a popular destination for companies and private individuals. In 2015 it will be celebrating its first 400 years of existence. The contract to build Hellbrunn was issued by Prince Bishop Markus Sittikus, and work was completed between 1612 and 1619.
In his honour there are several sections of an exhibition featuring ‘The world of Markus Sittikus’.
