The 2,700 conferences, seminars and conventions held in Salzburg in 2014 can’t be wrong: Salzburg is more popular than ever. This was also proven by the Austria Meeting Industry Report presented in mid-May by the Austrian Convention Bureau and Österreich Werbung (“Austrian National Tourist Office”). The historic sights, modern infrastructure, comfortable accommodation and wide range of offers create high demand at the Salzburg Convention Bureau. The number of events represents an increase of 32% year-on-year, thus bringing Salzburg a market share of 16.1% of the Austrian conference industry.
Second place for Salzburg
It’s not always the capital that counts! Salzburg comes in right behind Vienna in the ranking of Austria's most popular conference cities. More and more event planners are getting a taste of the city in the west and are hosting congresses, conferences and seminars in the federal state of Salzburg. Besides the excellent topics and valuable conferences, the exciting social activities available in the city and its surrounds pleased more than 200,000 participants in 2014. Whether it is leisurely after work walks on the Mönchsberg mountain or a small excursions during congress free time, Salzburg is the perfect destination for your conference. The city’s dedication to sustainability also gives Salzburg’s event venues major plus points in the eye of participants.
The record year brings growth
The large number of event participants has had positive effects on Salzburg’s accommodation because the conference industry provides nearly 10% of the total number of overnight stays in the city of Salzburg. This corresponds to 376,000 overnight stays for the 200,000 participants in 2014. The congresses also boosted Salzburg’s economy by a sensational 12%. This generally upward trend has also been noticed by the team at the Salzburg Convention Bureau. In 2014 there were around 40% more enquiries from the conference branch and an increase in bookings of over 10%.
