A stroll through the city of Salzburg
Discover the slow pace and beauty of the city of Salzburg. A professional tourist guide will take you from one attraction to the next, filling you in on the history of the city. Listen closely and you may hear a few lesser known but extremely interesting anecdotes about the city and its residents.
The stroll will begin at Mirabell Palace: you will be able to admire the angel staircase with Raphael Donner's baroque statues as well as the Marbel Hall, considered to be the loveliest wedding hall in Central Europe.
You will continue through the manicured Mirabell Gardens with its statues and marble vases designed by Fischer von Erlach, past the Salzburg Landestheater and Mozart's Residence on Markart Square across the Salzach towards the historic city center.
The highlights in Salzburg's Old City include the Cathedral, the largest early Baroque building north of the Alps, built after plans by Santino Solari, as well as St. Peter's Monastery, founded by St. Rupert in 696 A.D., and St. Peter's Cemetery with its early Christian catacombs and the tombs of prominent patrician families.
The tour continues into Getreidegasse, Salburg's most elegant shopping mile. It houses what is probably the most often-photographed building in the city, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's birthplace, exhibiting memorabilia from the life and work of the great composer.
Length of the walk: approx. 2 1/2 hours
