An excursion in the Salzkammergut lake district

It is mentioned in countless songs and is a popular location for sentimental regional films: the Salzkammergut with its deep blue lakes and picturesque towns. The district's climate and beauty were already appreciated during the emperor's day, when the Salzkammergut was used for extensive summer holidays. Many artists and authors came to the area during the summer months, finding a friendly, peaceful escape.
The excursion into the lake district will take you along the Fuschlsee to St. Gilgen on the Wolfgangsee, where W.A. Mozart's mother was born.
Following a romantic boat cruise across the Wolfgangssee from St. Gilgen to St. Wolfgang, you will visit the church with its famous Gothic winged altarpiece built by Michael Pacher.
On to Hallstatt, according to the world traveler Alexander von Humboldt, the "loveliest lakeside town in the world",. And that is saying something!
After a relaxing lunch consisting of fresh fish and specialities of the region you will stroll through the picturesque city of Hallstatt, UNESCO world heritage site since 1997.
Somehow frightening but very exciting, the "Charnel house" exposes about 1200 decorated death's heads.
The trip back to the city of Salzburg will take you through the high mountain region across the Gschütt Pass.
Length of the excursion: approx. 8 hours
