Hellbrunn Palace and the trick fountains

Hellbrunn Palace is located to the south of the city. It was built at the beginning of the 17th century as a venue for celebrations, music and theater performances but also as a retreat and palace to relax just outside of the city.
The tour will take you through the palace, which Archbishop Markus Sittikus had built after plans by Santino Solari. The architecture and landscape merge into a unique artistic blend. The complex includes the palace and secondary buildings, the gardens with their baroque flower beds and ponds, the hedges and avenues lining the English park ahd the trick foutains featuring the Roman Theater.
The legendary trick fountains continue to fascinate visitors from around the world. The only fully-preserved water-powered machines in Europe are driven from countless sources flowing through ingeniously simple mechanisms. Visitors will encounter allegorical figures taken from the baroque opera and marble goddesses. A variety of mythological beasts such as the city's heraldic animals, the lion, ibex and unicron, can also be seen in abundance.
Length of the tour of the palace and trick fountains: approx. 2 1/2 hours
